On Labor Day weekend, a special pilgrimage was made in devotion to the Martyrs of la Florida. Rev. Kevin M. McQuone, of the St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida, and 17 seminarians from dioceses across the Southeast United States, spent 3 days visiting mission and martyrdom sites for Servants of God Antonio Inija and Companions. A conference in Madison, Florida to introduce the martyrs, and a visit to a local martyrdom site began their journey. Vice Postulator Lynn Mangan and Petitioner Elizabeth Angula supplied them with prayer cards and pocket-sized educational materials.
Fr. Kevin and the Seminarians had an educational morning in a short conference near the future site of the Shrine of Our Lady, Queen of the Martyrs, followed by lunch and a visit close to another martyrdom site. The day was complete with a visit to the Shrine site itself. Lynn Mangan gave a beautiful account of the last stand for Catholicism in la Florida, followed by a Q&A session. Some Seminarians ended the day with a brief hike close to another martyrdom site on the property.
The third day of the pilgrimage was spent at Mission San Luis, the home of Antonio.
